Cameron Macaskill

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Cameron Macaskill is a postdoctoral research associate at the Klau Institute for Civil and Human Rights in the University of Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs. She received her Ph.D. in political science, with concentrations in international relations and comparative politics, from The Ohio State University. Prior to her graduate training, Cameron worked for the International Rescue Committee in Nairobi, Kenya, as a Princeton in Africa Fellow and, before that, earned her B.A. at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

Cameron's research explores international order and global governance through the experience of postcolonial states, especially on the African continent. In particular, she uses original qualitative field work and interpretive methods to explore why inequitable power dynamics between the “West and the Rest” persist with such durability and to ask how these states — and their populations — challenge this order. As a result, her research engages with postcolonialism, race, political economy, human rights, and inequality in international relations. Some of this work has been published at the European Journal of International Relations and has won awards from APSA’s International Relations Theory Section as well as from Ohio State’s Department of Political Science.
