CCHR faculty affiliate and former director, Douglass Cassel, has delivered a paper at the first session of the United Nations Intergovernmental Working Group on business and human rights. The meeting, held in Geneva July 6-10, included presentations by States, civil society actors, NGOs, and the business community. According to Cassel the sessions offered a well-structured beginning to what promises to be a challenging process, the drafting of an international, legally binding instrument on business and human rights.

Douglass Cassel is Notre Dame Presidential Fellow and professor of law at NDLS. His report from the meeting may be found here. His white paper, co-authored by Professor Anita Ramasastry and summarized at the U.N. Working Group session, may be read here.
