Two Klau Center Graduate Student Affiliates, Nataliia Voitseshyna and Iuliia Emtseva, recently delivered papers at international conferences. Both are part of the LL.M. Program in International Human Rights Law, a co-sponsored program of the Klau Center and Notre Dame Law School.
Ms. Emtseva, a human rights lawyer from Kyrgyzstan specializing in international and business law, participated in the Central Eurasian Society Annual Conference in Pittsburgh. The conference, held October 24-28, 2018, gathered Central Eurasian scholars to discuss a wide range of issues of regional import. Ms. Emtseva presented a report entitled “Fair Trial Rights in the Kyrgyz Republic,” and credits her appearance at the conference with exposing fellow scholars to human rights violations in the region.
Ms. Voitseshyna, a human rights lawyer from Ukraine, attended International Law Weekend, one of the primary international law conferences in the world, in New York, October 18-20, 2018. Ms. Voitseshyna presented her paper, “Transfer and Deportation of Civilian Population from Russia-occupied Crimea” as part of the “Emerging Voices” panel, presenting legal analysis on the topic to raise awareness of gross human rights violations in Crimea and call for research of new practices of hybrid warfare.
