Macarena Rodriguez has been honored by Comunidad Mujer, a Chilean advocacy organization, for her work with the Legal Aid Clinic for Immigrants at Alberto Hurtado University in Santiago. Ms. Rodriguez (pictured here, left) graduated cum laude from Notre Dame Law School’s LL.M. degree program in international human rights law in 2012. She was the recipient of a prestigious scholarship from BECAS CHILE, sponsored by the Chilean Ministry of Education.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Comunidad Mujer recognized Ms. Rodriguez and her staff for their efforts to promote and protect the rights of women immigrants. During her tenure as director of the clinic, Ms. Rodriguez has focused on providing assistance for economically disadvantaged people including immigrants, the homeless, and other minority groups.
“We are extremely proud to be associated with Macarena and her work on behalf of migrants” said Sean O’Brien, Director of LL.M. program. “Our program began in 1988 by educating Chilean and South African human rights lawyers. Her work at Alberto Hurtado builds upon and advances this history.”
