Location: 1310 Biolchini Hall of Law

The Klau Center for Civil and Human Rights sponsors a Summer Fellowship for law students to work in a public interest organization that promotes civil or human rights, and/or the enforcement of federal rights on behalf of underrepresented minorities. Join us as last year's awardees discuss their projects and provide insight into in working in public interest law in the summer and beyond. Speakers include:

Tom

Tom Dwyer, a second-year student with prior experience in public housing administration and community reentry programs, who served as an intern at the Sargent Shriver Poverty Law Center in Chicago. The Shriver Center engages in both litigation and legislative advocacy, focused on combatting the root causes of poverty. Dwyer spent the summer helping shape the organization’s advocacy efforts.

Bill

Bill Green, also a second-year student at Notre Dame Law School, who worked with Illinois’ Office of the State Appellate Defender (OSAD). Green has previous experience with advocacy on behalf of individuals seeking adequate health coverage, as well as those facing eviction from their homes. At OSAD, Green worked in defense of indigent clients in criminal and delinquent minor proceedings.

Jessica

Jessica Skocik, who secured an internship with the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS) at the Department of Justice, which is responsible for protecting children from sexual exploitation in various forms. Skocik assisted in investigations and prosecutions, with a major focus on human trafficking cases involving minors. Her fellowship was made possible in part thanks to the generous support of the Pasquale Family Endowment for Excellence.
